Local delivery and courier service Business Starter — Free Preview

A paid mile can hide an unpaid return trip. Model the entire route before accepting the rate.

Offer an agreed pickup-to-delivery service for ordinary accepted parcels within a defined zone, with size/weight limits, delivery evidence, waiting terms and a failed-delivery process.

Price the round-trip workload, including repositioning without cargo. Customer urgency and delivery-app advertised rates do not show waiting, parking, returns or vehicle wear. Write the recipient-unavailable process before pickup so an unsuccessful delivery does not become an unlimited storage obligation.

What you can work out with this playbook

  • Count deadhead miles and waiting time.
  • Set accepted-cargo and failed-delivery rules.
  • Compare the offered rate with total vehicle cost.

What to work through

  • Carrier and insurance: Check operation/vehicle characteristics with federal and state transport authorities and verify commercial-use coverage.
  • Custody and route: Define accepted contents, packaging, delivery proof, waiting allowance and return authorization without retaining unnecessary personal data.
  • Local permission and insurance: Describe every included task, working location, customer property exposure and vehicle use to the relevant authorities and insurer. Record written answers, coverage limits and exclusions.
  • Tax and cash timing: Verify the service classification and invoice treatment with the appropriate state authority. Sales tax collected is not business revenue. Add payment delays to a separate cash plan.

Move from reading to your own working plan

The expanded resource brings the niche playbook, printable worksheet, fictional example workbook and itemized Business Builder together. Enter your own costs, hours and planning answers; compare the calculated scenario, save the workbook locally and return to it as you gather quotes or pilot results.

Each playbook also includes an AI-assisted drafting exercise you can use in an external AI tool and check yourself. No AI service is called by the builder. Your inputs produce an educational planning report, not verified permissions, customers or guaranteed income.

Membership is useful if you want to work through and revisit your own plan. The free example above is available to read without buying; use it to decide whether the expanded workflow fits your needs.
